The father of UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap, passed away in a Moscow hospital, Friday morning, after reports came from Russia about his passing.

Abdulmanap had been dealing with health issues since late April. After being hospitalized, he was transported to a military hospital where he was confirmed for having COVID-19. Soon after the diagnosis, he suffered a heart attack which required emergency heart bypass surgery.

Following the surgery, Nurmagomedov was placed into two medically-induced comas, but he was able to make it out of both of them eventually.

After making it out of his coma’s, doctors had confirmed that Abdulmanap’s condition was ‘serious but stable’, but after experiencing more complications, he eventually lost his hard fought battle with the disease.

Early Friday morning, Chechen leader and friend of the Nurmagomedov family, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced the news in a post on his Telegram channel.

Abdulmanap’s legacy will likely live on forever, as he is the main one responsible for the huge influx of Dagestani fighters that have entered the UFC over the last few years.

The future of Khabib’s career is now in question as the guidance of his father was something that was relied on heavily by not only Khabib, but the entire Eagles MMA team. In the lead up to his son’s fights, despite having Visa issues, Abdulmanap would coach Khabib through FaceTime while he trained in San Jose, California, with the American Kickboxing Academy, under Javier Mendez.

Anywhere he went, Abdulmanap demanded the highest level of respect from everyone in the room, and it was evident by how his fighters treated and respected him.

We at Parry Punch express our condolences to the entire Nurmagomedov family and team of fighters that trained under Abdulmanap.
