On Monday, Feb. 17, UFC lightweight, Al Iaquinta joined ESPN’s Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show to talk about his upcoming grappling bout in Submission Underground, against fellow UFC fighter, Mike Perry.

The grappling bout will take place on Sunday, Feb. 23 at Submission Underground 11, at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon.

Iaquinta came on the Helwani Show right after watching him interview Perry, and he did not hold back his opinions on the interview.

“I feel like I’m freakin’ half retarded after listening to Mike Perry. Holy sh*t. You could’ve cut that one a little shorter,” said Iaquinta. Jesus what the hell – ‘I’ll tell you what I’m more nervous about my girlfriend,’ said Iaquinta, mocking Perry’s earlier comments he made on the show. “He better be worried about me. He’s gonna get seriously injured. That got me amped up. That got me really amped up.”

Perry’s IQ isn’t the only thing Iaquinta’s questioning ahead of Sunday’s matchup. He’s also questioning Perry’s conditioning and believes he can gas out the UFC welterweight rather quickly and make him quit.

“I think I can gas him out in five minutes. He’s like, ‘cardio’s a mentality.’ We’ll see. We’re gonna see. I’m gonna absolutely put it on him. Five minutes, I think I can gas him out in five minutes and just make him quit to be honest with you.”

Iaquinta concluded by saying that he believes his training partners are way better than Perry or anyone Perry has been training with in preparation for grappling bout.

“Bro, I’ve been training with guys that like, compete in the top of the top competitions in jiu jitsu. Like Abu Dhabi, all this sh*t, all these grappling tournaments, (and) I’m going with them everyday. This guy doesnt even know what he’s – he’s so clueless, he has no idea what he got himself into. He’s in a tremendous amount of trouble in this match.”

It’s clear that Iaquinta doesn’t believe his opponent is ready for the upcoming grappling bout and he’s talking a big game ahead of Sunday. This should be an exciting match. Tune into Submission Underground 11 on UFC Fightpass if you can’t make it to the live event.
