UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush is out of his main event bout against Islam Makhachev on Feb. 26 due to injury.
According to a report from ESPN, Dariush was forced to withdraw from the fight after he suffered an ankle injury in training. The injury occurred when Dariush’s foot got caught in the mat while he was taking someone down and he awkwardly landed on his foot.
As a result, Bobby Green has agreed fill in to fight Makhachev on less than two weeks notice. The bout has not yet been signed and it will likely take place at a catchweight.
UFC Fight Night 202 takes place Sat., Feb. 26 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Green, 35, fought just four days ago at UFC 271 in Houston, where he defeated Nasrat Haqparast via unanimous decision. Prior to that, he finished Al Iaquinta via first-round technical knockout at UFC 268. He is 5-2 in his last seven fights.
Makhachev, 30, is currently on a nine-fight winning streak. During the streak, he’s defeated names such as Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Gleison Tibau and more. Five of his last nine wins have come by finish.
