Last night, Australia’s George Kambosos Jr. shocked the world after defeating now former undisputed lightweight champ, Teofimo Lopez, by split decision to become boxing’s new unified lightweight champion.

Going into the fight, Kambosos Jr. closed as a +800 underdog, meaning that a $100 bet on him to win would have yielded an $800 profit. While sports books had Lopez as a -250 favorite to win by knockout or technical knockout. This meant that a $100 bet on him to win by KO/TKO would have yielded just $40. Lopez was seen as high as a -1200 favorite to win leading up to the fight.

Throughout the 12 round championship bout, both men hit the canvas. Kambosos Jr. dropped Lopez at the end of the first round and Lopez got his revenge in the 10th, where he dropped Kambosos Jr. and seemed to have had him badly hurt for the remainder of the round.

Although Lopez was ultimately able to recover from the early knockdown and even managed to turn the tide a few times throughout the fight, Kambosos Jr. proved to be too much for Lopez when it was all said and done.

In the immediate aftermath, boxers and media members took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the fight and the huge upset by Kambosos Jr.
