During his “Legendary Icon World Tour,” Floyd was asked about how his family shaped him to be the man he is today.

Growing up in a family that didn’t have the lifestyle that they desired, Mayweather took it upon himself to provide them the lifestyle that he and his family had always wanted.

He said that seeing his mother and sisters not have the things that they always wanted growing up led him to make the decision to drop out of school in the 12th grade to go compete in the olympics for an opportunity to give his family a better life.

“I was in the 12th grade and I had probably 2-3 credits to go, to graduate,” said Floyd. “You could either go to the olympics and take that chance and roll the dice, or you can go to school and make a way for your family. I knew at that particular time, the skills that I had only come once in a lifetime, so I rolled the dice, (and) quit school to put my family in a better position. Within I’d say twelve months, I was a multi-millionaire. So it paid off.”

Through hard work and dedication, Mayweather eventually became the world’s highest-paid athlete, and he is now one of the wealthiest people in the world.

According to Forbes, Mayweather’s career salary/winnings is $275 million.
