The middleweight bout between Chris Weidman and Uriah Hall will now take place on a later date than originally expected.
MMA Journalist, Ariel Helwani of ESPN was first to announce, after confirming with sources, that the fight scheduled to take place at UFC 258 on Feb. 13, was cancelled due to Weidman testing positive for COVID-19.
“The current plan is for the fight to be moved to UFC 261 on April 24, according to the sources,” Helwani wrote in an article for ESPN. “The UFC has discussed holding that event in Singapore, but those plans aren’t finalized yet. The bout isn’t signed yet for the date.”
Prior to signing with the UFC, Weidman and Hall fought each other in their local promotion, Ring of Combat, based out of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Weidman had a rather dominant performance, winning the fight in the first round by punches.
Following that win, Weidman went on to become middleweight champion of the UFC while Hall went on to eventually get his chance in the UFC through a impressive stint on The Ultimate Fighter 17. Though he ultimately came up short in the finale by losing to Kelvin Gastelum by split-decision, Hall put on arguably the craziest knockout ever seen on The Ultimate Fighter to date against Adam Cella, where he knocked him out with a spinning hook kick in the first round.
