Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is currently facing attempted, premeditated murder and eight other charges for shooting a man that sexually assaulted a close family member of his, who happens to be a minor.
On Tuesday, the Santa Clara (Calif.) District Attorney’s office released an official statement on the situation, revealing that Velasquez has in fact been charged with attempted, premeditated murder.
During an interview with Barstool Sports, Tuesday, UFC President Dana White gave his thoughts on the unfortunate matter involving one of his former champions.
“I obviously feel sorry for him and his family,” White said. “It’s a horrible thing. I don’t know enough details to speak on it, but from what I’ve heard, you know, we all say we’d do it if that happened to us. Cain did it.”
Since news came out on Monday that Velasquez did it in defense of his close family member, he has received a great deal of support from his peers in the mixed martial arts community.
Velasquez is currently facing a minimum of 20 years to life in prison if found guilty of the charges against him.
