Following Dana White’s Contender Series 33, Tuesday, UFC President, Dana White, spoke with media where he addressed how the Dustin Poirier vs. Tony Ferguson fight that was slated to take place at UFC 254, fell through.
“Listen, I like Dustin,” White told media. “I’m not gonna sit up here and say anything negative about Dustin, he’s a great kid. I don’t know if it was that he didn’t want to fight in Abu Dhabi or what his deal was, he just – he didn’t want to fight.”
“There’s a lot of different ways to turn down a fight,” White added. “Negotiating yourself out of one is one of the ways you can do it. So for whatever reason he didn’t want to take this fight, only he knows that.”
Shortly after White’s comments, Poirier took to Twitter to let his fans and everyone know that he wants the fight.
“I WANT THE FIGHT,” Poirier Tweeted.
As it stands right now, White confirmed at the press conference that the UFC has already found another fight for Ferguson, and that they plan on moving forward with it, once he accepts.
“We got a fight (for Ferguson),” said White.
White was then asked if Ferguson has already accepted the fight against his new opponent.
“Not yet, no,” he said. “He will though, I don’t see Tony not accepting a fight.”
More to come on this story once the fight gets officially booked.
