UFC Vegas 40 has lost a highly anticipated middleweight bout.

Following Fridays early morning weigh-ins, UFC officials announced that middleweight Julian Marquez (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) was forced to withdraw from his fight against Jordan Wright (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) due to non-Covid related health issues.

As a result, the featherweight bout between Nate Landwehr and Ludovit Klein has been bumped up from the prelims to the first fight on the main card. The card will proceed with 10 total fights instead of its originally scheduled 11.

Wright officially weighed in at 184.5 pounds, while Marquez did not make it to the scale.

Marquez, 31, returned to competition in February of this year after spending nearly three years off recovering from a torn latissimus dorsi. Since his return, Marquez has rattled off back-to-back submission victories over Maki Pitolo and Sam Alvey.

Wright is coming off a first-round TKO over Jamie Picket that took place in May. This would have been his second fight this year.
