Luke Rockhold has announced that he is out of his bout against rival Sean Strickland at UFC 268: Usman vs. Covington.

The announcement came earlier this evening through an Instagram story where Rockhold revealed he suffered a back injury.

“No really easy way to say it, but the fight is off in New York,” said Rockhold. “I ended up herniating a disk in my back – L4, L5. Doctors say it’s nothing I can play with. I need to do some treatment and get some recovery time. Some things just aren’t meant to be.”

Rockhold, 36, hasn’t fought since losing to now UFC light heavyweight champ, Jan Blacowicz, at UFC 259 in July of 2019.

Strickland, 30, has come into his own over the last two years as a UFC fighter and he is currently riding a five fight win streak in the middleweight division dating back to 2018.
