UFC welterweight Michael Chiesa is looking for a fight against former interim welterweight champ, Colby Covington in his next fight.
Following Chiesa’s dominant 5-round unanimous decision victory over Neil Magny at UFC Fight Island 8, he wasted no time letting the masses know who he wants next.
Once the official decision was announced, Chiesa, who improved to a four-fight winning streak, knew exactly what he wanted to say in his post-fight octagon interview.
“The election is over,” Chiesa said. “Colby Covington, your schtick is done. I want you next boy.”
When Chiesa showed up to the post-fight press conference, he was real in explaining why he chose to call out Covington.
“Because he’s the toughest match up for me,” Chiesa said. “Stylistically that guy should beat me on any given Sunday. From the physical standpoint. From the mental warfare standpoint. There’s not a lot of boxes that you can check that favor me in that fight, but how can I say ‘I want to be a champion’ if I don’t want to face the best guys. Sometimes the best guys are the ones that are the toughest for you stylistically. So when I look at the top 5, I think that’s the hardest fight for me,” adding, “If I come up short, I come up short. But I want to be the best, so I gotta fight the best.”
