At last, after much anticipation for the better part of this year, the bantamweight title fight between Petr Yan (15-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) vs. Aljamain Sterling (19-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) has finally been booked for a date in March.
First reported by MMA Junkie, contracts have been sent to both Yan and Sterling for a title fight on March 6 for UFC 259. Now making it the third official championship bout on the card.
Right now, the location for the UFC 259 Pay-Per-View card is still TBA.
Yan has put together an impressive undefeated streak since joining the UFC back in 2018, going 7-0 with four finishes. If he can get the job done against Sterling, that will really solidify his championship status, and could potentially set up a title reign for a long time.
Sterling will look to be Yan’s toughest test to date which he has the potential to be, considering the fact that Yan’s last three opponents are fighters that are past their prime, and are reaching towards the end of their careers. Sterling, 31, is entering the prime of his career, and he is coming off an impressive first round submission over top contender, Cory Sandhagen. In addition, he has also gone 7-1 in his last eight fights.
