Following his big second round TKO win over top 10 UFC bantamweight, Marlon Moraes, Rob Font joined MMA Junkie to talk about what’s next for him after finally capitalizing on a big co main event opportunity against a top contender.
While talking to media backstage following his win, Font threw out TJ Dillashaw’s name multiple times as a potential next opponent since he is set to come back from his two-year PED suspension in January.
Although Dillashaw’s name is a bit high profile for Font’s standing in the UFC, with him coming off a two-year layoff this could play in Font’s favor as far as getting the fight goes.
Here’s what Font had to say about wanting to welcome Dillashaw back from suspension.
“I just know he’s (TJ Dillashaw) a former champion, so beating a guy like that, that has to say something right,” Font told MMA Junkie. “I know he’s looking for a fight, you know. He’s not booked, everyone else is booked, so it makes sense. It would be entertaining so, yeah, that’s definitely the fight to make.”
“I just know this fight makes sense, you know,” said Font. “I only want tough fights from here on out, and this is probably one of the toughest fights out there that’s realistic that could be put together. So it doesn’t have anything to do with this win, I would have asked for this fight regardless. This is a great fight for the fans, and obviously this gets me exactly to where I need to be, and that’s closer to that belt.”
Factoring in Dillashaw’s return date, Font would like to have this fight happen sometime in March.
“I’m thinking (we can fight in) March,” said Font. “You know, trying to get back in there. Get me another camp and I’m ready.”
Fans will have to wait till Dillashaw officially returns from suspension on Jan. 18 to see if this fight really has a chance of happening. One thing is for sure though, Font can look forward to nothing but top matchups from here on out.
