Roger Mayweather, the uncle and long-time trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr., died Tuesday, after a hard fought battle with diabetes, along with other compiled health conditions. He was 58 years-old.

Mayweather wasn’t just the trainer of Floyd Jr., he also had a successful career in boxing, himself. Fighting the likes of Pernell Whitaker, Julio Caesar Chavez, and more, Mayweather accomplished a lot in the sport of boxing. Both in fighting, and as a trainer.

He retired from boxing in 1999, with an overall record of 59-13, with 35 of those victories coming by way of knockout.

In addition, Mayweather won world titles in two different weight classes. One being at super featherweight, and the other being at light welterweight.

After his illustrious career, Roger moved on to train his nephew, Floyd Jr., after Floyd’s father was sent to jail on drug charges when he was still a minor.

He trained his nephew to be arguably, the greatest boxer of all-time, leading him to a 50-0 record, along with grossing the highest career earnings of any athlete in history, at the time that he retired.

“My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring,” said Floyd. “Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing. Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace. Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world. It is a terrible loss for all of us.”

The death of Roger comes just six days after the death of Josie Harris, the mother of Floyd Jr’s. three children, where she was found dead in a car, in her driveway in Valencia, CA.

That investigation is still ongoing, and the cause of death is still unknown at this time. Harris was 40 years-old at the time of her death.

Since then, Mayweather has paid tribute to his late ex-girlfriend and mother of his children, through a series of Instagram posts of the two, together, during a happier time in both of their lives.

Here is 1 of 13 posts Mayweather has shared of Josie, since her death, last Wednesday, 3/11/20.
