After picking up a big win last weekend at UFC 250, “Sugar” Sean O’Malley, spoke with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani to recap the event and discuss his future plans in the UFC.
Helwani asked O’Malley to confirm whether or not he has a management team representing him, after news broke early last week that O’Malley in fact had been managing himself throughout his fight camp, and fight week.
“I paid my manager 10% of what I made from previous fights, (and) I didn’t feel it was worth paying (him 10%). I’d rather pay my coaches more,” said O’Malley. “I do have a lawyer that looks over all (of) my contracts, and I have a couple marketing managers out there, you know, looking for the bigger deals as far as marketing,” he added. “But as far as when it comes to the fight money, I don’t want to pay someone 10%. I don’t even know how managers can even think or expect that they should charge their fighters bonuses. It doesn’t make sense for me.”
O’Malley stated that although he is currently still signed to his old fight contract, he plans to talk with UFC matchmaker, Sean Shelby, later this week about renegotiating his deal. He has wanted to renegotiate this same contract since his last win, back in March at UFC 248.
