Following his big main event win over Geoff Neal at UFC Vegas 17, Stephen Thompson, took to his Youtube channel to update fans on the injuries he suffered during his five round fight.
During the fight, Thompson appeared to have injured his right knee towards the end of the fourth round. He stated in his short injury update that it was actually his quad that he feels he injured, and he’s scheduled to get an MRI on it on Thursday.
“My quad, I haven’t got an MRI on that, we got that happening Thursday,” said Thompson. “We’ll find out what the damage is there. We think it’s a quad tear, hopefully it’s not a tendon tear. Tendon will take obviously surgery and a little bit longer time for healing.”
Aside from the quad injury, Thompson suffered a few large cuts under his eyes, and on his forehead which he says are healing nicely.
“I had a big cut under my left eye, obviously the big gash on my forehead, and a cut under my right eye,” said Thompson. “The cuts under my eyes are pretty much all healed up.”
With his unanimous decision victory over Neal, who was the no. 1 contender in the welterweight division going into the fight, Thompson may find himself in the title picture once again. However, immediately following his win, Thompson, called out Jorge Masvidal to be his next opponent, so he has options going into his next fight.
