Academy Award winning actress, Halle Berry was in attendence for UFC 247 Jones vs. Reyes, Saturday night at the Toyota Center, but it wasn’t the main event that brought her to the event in Houston, Texas. Berry came to support her friend in the co-main event, UFC women’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko.
The two have developed a friendship over the past year, working on Berrys upcoming MMA movie, “Broken” which, according to Shevchenko, is set to be released sometime later this year.
“I don’t know exactly the date, but I heard (that) it’s going to be this year probably. I hope sooner but I think sometime by the end (of the year),” said Shevchenko, Monday on ESPN’s Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.
Shevchenko played a role in training Berry for the upcoming film, and acted in the movie as well. She talked about how much of a pleasure it was to work with an actress as accomplished as Berry, and revealed that she has been training MMA a lot longer than most fans might think.
“She’s a great person, I love to work with her. She’s so nice, she’s so dedicated to what she’s doing, and she’s so professional,” Shevchenko told ESPN. “For example, for this movie, she was training, she prepared for three years.”
The UFC champ won her fight in dominant fashion in front of the Hollywood star, finishing her opponent in the third round via ground strikes in the mounted crucifix position.
