Bellator fighter, Usman Nurmagomedov, cousin of former UFC champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was arrested in Moscow by airport police on Thursday following an incident that resulted in a police officer getting ran over by a car that he and a friend were allegedly driving.

Nurmagomedov and his friend, Kamal Idrisov, were taken into custody by police following the incident and are currently “suspected of running over a policeman with a car at the checkpoint of Kaspiysk Airport,” according to the police press release.

Local investigators say the men were driving a Toyota Camry that had window tint and no license plate, and ignored police officers orders to stop near an airport checkpoint at around 11:30 a.m. Instead, the car “sped up over a security barrier running over a police officer, who sustained injuries.”

The Russian Investigation Committee has since opened a criminal case into the incident.

Bellator has since issued a statement on the incident to MMA Fighting.

“The promotion has been made aware of the situation involving Usman Nurmagomedov and is in the process of gathering information and have no further comment at this time,” the statement read.

Nurmagomedov, 23, currently holds a professional MMA record of 14-0 and is coming off a first-round submission victory over Patrik Pietila this past October at Bellator 269.

Rusen Press tweeted what appears to be the mugshots of Usman Nurmagomedov and Kamal Idrisov

The post was captioned, “Khabib Nurmagomedov’s brother was detained in Moscow. Usman Nurmagomedov is suspected of crushing a police officer.” (Translated via Google Translate.)
