Friday night, on Valentine’s Day, Ryan Garcia took on Francisco Fonseca where he handled the Nicaraguan rather convincingly within the first three minutes of the fight.
Garcia knocked Fonseca out cold with a textbook check left hook which dropped him, resulting in his head slamming against the canvas. Fonseca was out for quite some time before getting up from the knockout.
After a quick celebration, Garcia realized how badly his opponent had been hurt and immediately dropped to a knee to watch and wait for his opponent to get up.
After the fight, there was a moment between Garcia and Devin Haney. While Garcia was giving his post-fight speech, he acknowledged Haney saying, “If he’s a champ, I’m a champ.”
Garcia says that he wants to clear out the division first, then fight Haney last.
