Jim Miller picked up his first knockout victory in over five years years on Saturday at UFC Vegas 40.
During the first five minutes of the fight, both fighters had their moments where they nearly finished each other. However, the more experienced Miller edged it out due to landing the cleaner punches.
Jim Miller finishes his opponent with a perfectly timed left hook
Following a back-and-forth first round, Miller’s technique shined through at the start of the second round when he countered Gonzalez with a beautifully timed left hook, dropping his opponent and ultimately finishing him after landing a few ground and pound punches.
Miller, 38, hadn’t finished an opponent with strikes since Takanori Gomi at UFC 200 in July of 2016.
The victory was huge for Miller after losing his last two fights by unanimous decision to Joe Solecki and Vinc Pichel.
Gonzalez, who made his UFC debut against Miller, will get another chance at proving his worth in the UFC. It’s likely that his willingness to step up and fight a veteran like Miller in his debut won’t go unnoticed by the UFC brass.
